Section 2: How do I grow up in my relationship with Jesus?
HOW DO I GROW UP IN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD?
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!””(Romans 10:15)
Jesus was beaten and humiliated publicly for you. He was nailed to a Roman cross and lifted into the air to suffer and die publicly for you. In return He expects you to acknowledge Him publicly. Not in a weird way but in a natural way. Not with every stranger who crosses your path. Just be willing to walk through the doors He opens and to share with those people who are most important in your life. When we begin to grasp the magnitude of what He has done for us it makes it easier to do what we must do for Him (Romans 10:13-15).
It is helpful to give some thought to the things you would like to share about your experience with God before you find yourself in the middle of an opportunity to share your story with someone. You may think that they will ask questions about the Christian faith you won’t be able to answer. And you may be right. But even as a new believer you have a story of what God is going in your life and how it has made things different for you and how He has changed the way you see the world around you. Even if you become a distinguished theologian, I don’t think you will ever have a more powerful message to share with others than you own personal story.
Be specific when you share with others about how you became a Christian. Realize you are not just sharing how you became a Christian. You are also sharing how they can become one, too. So give it some thought. Think about what is important for other people to know about your experience with God. Going public is the fourth and final corner of your faith foundation.
We all want to experience the reality of God in our lives. We want to feel His love and engage in a relationship with Him that is both vital and real. Building a solid “faith foundation” is the part we must do ad the rest is up to God. You can be sure you will realize your desire to know Him if you devote yourself to these four things: talking with God, hearing from Him through His Word, being connected in a community of believers, and being willing to “go public” for HIm.
