BECOMING A FOLLOWER OF JESUS
The Good News - what is Jesus’ message and what does it mean to me?
I love getting a phone call that starts off, “Mike, I’ve got some good news for you.” We all like receiving good news don’t we? The message of Jesus, the story of God’s plan to bring peace and freedom to humankind, is indeed a “good news” story.
Some people say that only bad news sells, but the proclamation of the story of Jesus is the longest running endeavor in human history. You have probably heard the phrase, “the gospel message” before. If you are like many people, you know this has something to do with Jesus or the Bible but you aren’t quite sure what it means. The word “gospel” actually means good news. The gospel messge is the centerpiece of the Christian faith. As a new believer, or one investigating the claims of Christ, the first issue to come togrips with is “what is this good news?”
