BECOMING A FOLLOWER OF JESUS
You knit me together in my mother’s womb. (Psalm 139:13)
The Bible teaches us God did not only created the world we live in and the human race we are a part of, but He created each of us as individuals. All of our unique characteristics, aptitudes, passions, talents, and challenges are by His design. Scripture tells us that He oversaw as we were formed in the wombs of our mothers (Psalm 139:13) and all of our days were seen by Him before the day of our birth. He knows the words are are going to speak before we say them and even knows our thoughts (Psalm 139:15-16).
Wow. Really? Could He really know me that well? That’s what the Bible says. He is not aloof and detached as some say. He is intimately involved in each of our lives, and not only that, He loves us and wants the best for us (Psalm 139:1-4). The Bible teaches us that God knows us as individuals, in a very intimate way.
Some people believe that the world we live in was created by a supreme being, a creator, but they don’t believe that God is involved in His creation. They believe that after creating the world, God has simply stepped back and let things happen as they may. He is unable or unwilling to intervene in the events of history or the affairs of people. This belief system is called deism and people that believe this way are called deists.
Take a a quick look into the Bible and see for yourself. Which God do you see? One who knows us as individuals or one that is uncaring or aloof? The Bible tells us that God knows us better than ourselves, and He has a plan for us that is better than our own plan (Jeremiah 29:11). But He will not force us to follow Him. We must choose for ourselves.
