Who is Jesus?

“This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” (1 John 4:9)

Who is Jesus? Finding the right answer to this question is the single most important issue we will face in our lives. Jesus’ identity is the reason He was able to be the “once for all” sacrifice for the sin of humanity. The Bible teaches that Jesus is God with a capital “G.” He is God incarnate (or walking among us) in human flesh (John 1:14). He is eternal, without beginning and without end (John 1:1). He is the author of all creation. Nothing in creation exists apart from the work of His hand. he is fully God and fully man, the only man ever to live a sinless life. Even though He was crucified and buried in the tomb, He overcame death and was resurrected. He walked among His followers for 40 days following His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:3-6) and ascended to heaven before their eyes (Acts 1:9) to take His place on the throne where He reigns today.

This is how Christians answer the question “who is Jesus?”

Jesus’ question ring out to you today: “Who do you say that I am?” Of course there are people who have other answers for this question. Some say Jesus was an important teacher or one of the prophets of God. His disciples informed Jesus that people were saying these same things about Him during His earthly ministry. People were saying other things about Him too: that He was a liar, a blasphemer, a crazy man. This disciples were too polite to repeat these things to Him but He knew what the people were saying.

People continue to have lots of ideas and opinions about the question, “Who is Jesus?” You will hear all of the same opinions today as those disciples expressed to Jesus, in addition to others. Some will say, “He is one of the most important religious teachers ever to live.” Others claim He is completely mythical, like the tooth fairy; something weak-minded people can clutch onto because they need a crutch, and on and on.

The question Jesus asked of His disciple, Peter as they walked through north country of the Sea of Galilee rings out today. Jesus looked at Peter in the face and asked point blank, “Peter, who do you say that I am?” Peter goth the answer right that day when he told Him that He was “the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”and Jesus commended him for it (Matthew 16:13-17).

You can’t possibly take the next step toward a relationship with Christ unless you get the answer to this question correct.
